TRANSFER OF WEALTH
Transfer of Family Wealth – Boston College did a study of the transfer of wealth in the United States. They estimated that $41 trillion of American wealth will transfer from the current generation to the next generation, with the peak transfer occurring in or around the year 2050. The Nebraska Community Foundation in their analysis of this study, estimates that in Nebraska, approximately $258 billion of Nebraska wealth will have their peak transfer of wealth occurring in or around the year 2035. However, in their analysis, they conclude that Adams County will see an estimated $4.3 billion in wealth transfer from the current generation to the next generation, peaking in or around the year 2025, due to the slightly older population of Adams County compared to the state. There are a number of situations and circumstances that could cause much of this wealth to leave Adams County permanently. Loss of local heirs, inadequate estate planning, and increased probability of giving to charities outside the local communities will have an impact on how much wealth actually stays in Adams County. With thoughtful planned giving, a portion of this wealth gifted back to the local community, in the form of charitable endowments, can be an investment in community betterment for many years to come.
