Key Society Ensures Downtown Shines Bright

Thanks to a leadership gift from the HCF’s Key Society, downtown Hastings will shine brighter than ever this holiday season. The rooftop holiday lighting on buildings along Second Street in downtown are getting a significant upgrade. Dull, white lights are being replaced with bright, multi-colored, LED lights which can be used year-round. The new lighting will be in place for the annual Lighting of Downtown event on Thursday, November 20.

“This gift represents more than an upgrade to holiday lights,” said Dan Peters, executive director of the Hastings Community Foundation. “Our Key Society members are excited to bring festive lighting to events all throughout the year. Imagine a downtown that is lit green on St. Patty’s Day, orange and black on Halloween, and has school colors in motion during homecoming weekends.”

Additional donations from the Community Development Authority, Adams County Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Business Improvement District, will help expand the lights to First Street and side streets in 2026. In addition, the Hastings Community Foundation is hosting a fund for individuals and businesses wishing to contribute to the project.
